Pictured right with DJ Baku, Takeaki Maruyama has been knocking around for some time. I don’t know much about outer limits Dubstep, in fact I know practically nothing. As a reader of Wire magazine I find myself skipping over articles as I’ve found no real admiration for Burial, Kode9 or The Bug – ‘fucking philistine’ I know. Anyway, I like Goth-Trad and I thought I’d share that.
For an artist that is based in Japan his sound is heavily influenced by the ‘are you scared yet posh boy’ sound that is linked to London. His style is deceptively simple, often segmenting each track with opposing basslines and organic oscillations. What stands out is that the sound is glamorous and exotic; additionally the long, arching melodies seep virtuosity. He’s been on Soul Jazz compilations so you’ve got no excuse. His website is here and his myspace on the photo.
